Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

Here is an example of why hiring illegal aliens is not economically productive for the State of California...
You have 2 families..."Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have 2 parents, 2 children and live in California.

"Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted.

"Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has "NO" Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Joe Legal...$25.00 per hour x 40 hours $1 000.00 per week, $52,000 per year. Now take 30% away for state federal tax. Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal...$15.00 per hour x 40 hours $600.00 per week, $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage, $1,000.00 per month, $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $19,231.00.

Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money is not eligible for Food Stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays for food, $1,000.00 per month, $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000.00 per month, $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal is now in the hole. Minus (-) $4,769.00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month Federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays rent $500.00 per month, $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $25,200.00.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch.

Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

THIS IS NOT A PARTY ISSUE: IT'S A COMMON SENSE ISSUE...Don't vote OR support any politician that supports illegal aliens...

Make it a point to know how your representative votes, State and Federal.....

It’s PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans!

It angers me when people tell me I'm against immigration. I am wholeheartedly FOR immigration. JUST DO IT LEGALLY! And learn the language doggone it! If my great-great-grandparents had to do it right, so should the rest of those coming to America.

i have nothing against LEGAL aliens...they wanna come work? fine, do it the right way...the only solution that will work that i see is to start fining the socks off of anyone who hires an illegal...just saying they produced papers is not good enuf... you (the employer) are held responsible for ascertaining the validity of paper work  (it isn't that difficult, like they would have you believe)

I have no problems with people coming to the US legally. But to reward those who are not here legally..? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I think that this does more to highlight the serious problems we have on restricting immigration and migrant workers more than anything else. The patriot act, once again, causes serious problems for our country.

We need to provide a way for legal immigrants to get in in some reasonable fashion, not build a wall to hold people out. If we don't... we need to tear down the statue of liberty, because we no longer wish to bring in the tired, poor, and hungry masses yearning to be free.

Agreed. I never thought it was a good idea to allow people to leech off and not pay taxes. The only thing I wish is that the whole process could be a little quicker. It took 18 years to get my cousin from Honduras to get her Visa into the US.

Amazing illustration of what this really means for this nation. I don't think most people look beyond the surface and see this situation for what this really is. I mean, look at California. Half their problem (or better) has to be from the number of illegal aliens the state supports. Legal Joe can only pay for so many.

people should be free to move about north america at will if they live in north america. i know i do,,, and i have no problem with others having the same opportunity...

the problem here is not illegals,,, the problem is people illegally hiring employees... lets call a spade a spade here,,, were locking up the wrong people,,, if you want to end the problem,,, punish the offenders,, not the visitors...

you have created a welfare state,,, you continue your welfare state and when you find youself short on cash,,, you seem to want to blame someone who is not responsible.

people who are not responsible are limitless,,, people who are responsible are not...

until we figure that out,,,, jose will continue to work there,,, wouldnt it be far better if jose could come to the us to shop,,,, and,,, uh,,,, help the economy?

put the blame where you want to,,, hahahahaha,, id start with a pay rate of $25 an hr,,,, and who wouldnt kill for a $15 an hr job? hahahaha,,, your living in a dream world,,, which is another reason its crumbling... anyone i know would kill for $5 an hr. (real money)

the point in life i remember when i could afford anything and everything my heart desired,,, i was making 50 cents an hr....

a long time ago you say,,,, sure it was,,,, not an example to display my age,,, an example of what your government has done to the value of your money...... via your welfare state,,, honest work for a days pay never devaluated anything......

im done here,, just wanted to point out your chasing the wrong monster....

You should make it "Jose Legal" and "Jose Illegal" so no one can accuse you of being racial. And to point out that LEGAL immigration IS good for the economy, it is ILLEGAL immigration that is the problem.

A couple ideas:

1. In the same sense that illegal immigrants don't pay the costs for "social security" or "insurance," they also don't pick up its benifits. Fair, right?

2. Your entry as much a rant against illegal immigration as it is a critique of legal immgrants and familigies struggling at the poverty line. Other than the first couple lines of "social security" and "insurance," a lower class (legal) immigrant family would pick up every disadvantage of "Jose Illegal."

I'm sorry that my 80 year old illiterate Taiwanese-American grandma couldn't learn English. Just don't yell at her if you ever catch her in public.

Yes but a legal immigrant would also have a social security number or a taxpayer identification number and pay into the system at some point as well. The idea of a non-citizen who violated national law to get here, reaping benefits of a system they have no intention of ever being a part of or paying into, is the problem.

Yeah, I buy that sentiment. But illegal immigrants here, now, have no realistic options to become "legal." Many immigrants from Mexico and Central America have been here for years with children born in the United States. Even when it is the right thing to do, uprooting and seperating families is heart-wrenching to do.

Illegal immigrantion will never go away. Realistic policy should aim towards minimizing the problem fairly. I believe that legalization options should be provided to setttled illegal immigrants in a manner that would (a) Place them in line behind legal immigrants and (b) Penalize them.

I guess I have little sympathy for people who knowingly broke the law and now expect to go unpunished for it. Other than that, it seems we agree (look, it does happen from time to time, lol).

@CelestialTeapot - My 95 year old illiterate French-Canadian great-great grandmother learned it. It was the LAW if you wanted your citizenship.  And they retained their sense of culture-*I* grew up bi-lingual. If you wanted to eat, you asked for things in French and conversed at the dinner table in French. Or you didn't sit there.

I agree. It's wrong to reward those who show no regard for our laws and don't pay into the system they get benefits from. I have NO issue with immigration so long as it is done the legal way. That's what my ancestors did.

Both the illegal immigrant who broke the law and the corrupt business that illegally hires them should be punished.

The whole thing really seems like a slap in the face to people who went about the process the legal way to me.

That is a bunch of bull, seriously.
"Jose" (which was a really dick move to pick a Hispanic name) works harder then "Joe" in most cases. You little demonstration really doesn't count for everyone. I do agree though that illegal IMMIGRANTS, not aliens, because last time I checked we don't have any green people in America, should get citizenship if they really want to stay here.

I have no problem with "legal" immigration. I have a big problem with illegal "aliens". I see a trend, even if you don't...

Alien /Al´ien/, n. A foreigner; one owing allegiance, or belonging, to another country; a foreign-born resident of a country in which he does not possess the privileges of a citizen

Immigrant /Im´mi•grant/ (?), n. [L. immigrans, p. pr. of immigrare to go into: cf. F. immigrant. See Immigrate.] One who immigrates; one who comes to a country for the purpose of permanent residence; -- correlative of emigrant.

Statistical Breakdown of U.S. Illegal Immigrants- May 1, 2006, A Special BBC News Report

An estimated 11.5 - 12 million foreign nationals are living illegally in the US.

More than three quarters of illegal immigrants in the US were born in Latin America, with a large proportion of these coming from Mexico.

Most enter the US by slipping across the 2,000-mile (3,200 km) southern border - in 2005 more than a million people were arrested trying.

Although the typical illegal immigrant is often perceived as young, male and travelling alone, unauthorised migrants range from whole families, including children, to lone women.

I wonder how much social security makes off illegals that will never collect.
I wonder if that is the only thing keeping it afloat?

I wonder why is is made very difficult to become a citizen for Hispanics.

It's very difficult for anyone to become a citizen. It takes years, sometimes decades. Think Hispanics have it hard, try being a Muslim. Lack of effort could be one of the reasons the task seems so challenging, though. Why do it the legal way when the laws will soon be changed in your favor? There's no need to try.
